Marilyn Stubbs Cooney, AFCA

Marilyn Stubbs Cooney resides in British Columbia on Vancouver Island, where she is a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Arrowsmith Chapter. She is also a member of TOSH 10, a group of artists at the Old School House in Qualicum Beach and is a member of the Silk Worm Club, dedicated to silk painting.

Before moving to British Columbia, Cooney resided in Ontario, where her first experiences were as an art and music teacher. Cooney's skills were applied as a graphic artist employed in the greeting and decorating industry. She also freelanced as a graphic artist for a company in Quebec and a company in Belgium where her work is available in Europe, Asia and North America. Cooney later opened a successful studio/gallery which was ongoing until her move west. As an artist, Cooney incorporates her graphic skill to produce meticulously explicit watercolours showing the viewer a microscopic intimacy with natural form. Using silk as a canvas and dyes as the medium allows the artist to produce work with strong line and the excitement of colour. Cooney's work is in collections across Canada, the United States, Germany and Japan. The artist has had three successful shows of her work. Two solo shows were at the Lyndia Terre Gallery with the other shows at the Chemainus Theatre Gallery.

She had her Mother as a mentor who studied under Lauren Harris. The artist continues her education with workshops offered by signature members of the FCA and critiquing her work along with fellow artists.

Artist Statement
Everything in life has a connection. As an artist and musician the joy of expression is paramount with touching the senses of others and one's self. It is the internal challenge that keeps one striving to reach the next plane of knowledge and achievement. The gift of being able to create through art is a medium for one to simultaneously give and receive love.
